The Beauty of Nature, and a wealth of artistic, gastronomic and craft experiences. Treats all around.
The Municipality of Chiavenna sits proudly at the foot of the Rhaetian Alps, where the Liro torrent (in Valle Spluga and San Giacomo) and the river Mera (Val Bregaglia) converge. It was precisely this most strategic geographic position that ensured the town's fortunes from way back in ancient times.
The town itself occupies a venerable and distinguished position where some inspirational and evocative corners intertwine with ancient byways with a wealth of history. In recent years it has been awarded both the prestigious città slow certificate, and the Bandiera Arancione from Touring Club Italy. Chiavenna is the place which hosts unique crotti: natural cavities where the legendary sorèl breeze manages to maintain a constant year-round temperature making it an ideal place for the maturation of local products, including the renowned ''brisaola'' a cured and dried meat.
